Getting a retail listing is pretty challenging. It's not just about securing the listing, but also being prepared for what comes next to ensure you stay on the shelf.

This session is for drinks brands and wine producers who haven't yet secured a listing, or perhaps have tried and didn't quite get it right the first time. Barry and Helen bring both sides of the table to a short, honest conversation about what it actually takes to be retail-ready — the foundational things worth thinking about before your pitch, not after.

This isn't an industry masterclass. It's a confidence session. Chances are you already have a great product — its now about focusing on the right things that will deliver strong ROS and beat the competition. Being in retail isn't always a bed of roses either, so we will talk about some of the challenges too. We'll keep it practical, and short, and leave you with something to take away.

Speakers:
  • Barry Dick MW — Master of Wine with senior experience across major FMCG wine producers and UK multiple retail, including managing global importation and UK packing for Waitrose's drinks buying team. Brings the buyer's-eye view of what makes a brand retail-ready.
  • Helen Barugh — Extensive experience leading grocery channels within distributors, and has a background selling to all the UK's top grocers (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda, Co-op, Booths) as well as wholesalers and convenience customers too. Brings the supplier/route-to-market view of building and scaling a listing commercially.
